Mozambique Tilapia

The Mozambique tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) is a fascinating addition to any aquaculture project. Native to southern Africa, these fish have adapted to a variety of environments and are known for their longevity, often living up to a decade in their natural habitats. Due to their hardy nature and adaptability, Mozambique tilapia can be found in tropical and subtropical habitats worldwide, sometimes even as invasive species.

In captivity, these tilapia display a unique lateral compression and a deep body with long dorsal fins, some of which have spines. Their native coloration is typically a subdued greenish or yellowish hue with faint banding. Adult Mozambique tilapia can reach up to 35 cm (14 in) in length and weigh up to 1.13 kg (2.5 lb). Their size and color may vary due to environmental factors and breeding conditions. With a potential lifespan of up to 11 years, Mozambique tilapia fingerlings are an excellent choice for aquaculture enthusiasts looking for a resilient and adaptable species.
